To assist with public advocacy initiatives important to the Organization's goals and purposes, the OAH participates in several cooperative efforts.
National Humanities Alliance
Created in 1981, NHA is devoted to advancing the cause of the humanities by promoting the common interests of its members with regard to national policy, programs and legislation that affect the National Endowment for the Humanities and other agencies related to the humanities. John Hammer is the NHA director.

National Coalition for History
In 1977 the OAH was a founding member of the National Coordinating Committee for the Promotion of History (NCCPH) which became a coalition of more than fifty historical, archival, political science, library, and genealogical organizations concerned with federal policies and programs that relate to history.
The NCCPH formally ceased operations on 1 January 2003, and its successor organization, the National Coalition for History (NCH), began its advocacy efforts for history and archival organizations. Bruce Craig carries his directorship over from the NCCPH to the NCH.
Along with the change of name, the Policy Board of the NCH approved at the 2003 AHA annual meeting an ambitious three-year strategic plan for the betterment of the history and archival communities in the twenty-first Century. To view the plan, visit <http://www2.h-net.msu.edu/~ncc/>.
