2011 MERLE CURTI AWARD

Home

The Merle Curti Award is given annually for the best book in American social and/or American intellectual history. The committee may decide to give the award to two books, one in social history and one in intellectual history.

Each entry must be published during the period January 1, 2010 through December 31, 2010. One copy of each entry must be received by each committee member by October 1, 2010.

Bound page proofs submitted by the publisher may be used for books to be published after October 1, 2010 and before January 1, 2011. If a bound page proof is submitted, a bound copy of the book must be received no later than January 7, 2011. No late submissions will be accepted. Bound page proofs not followed by a bound copy of the book will not be considered. If a book carries a copyright date that is different from the publication date, but the actual publication date falls during the correct time frame making it eligible, please include a letter of explanation from the publisher with each copy of the book sent to committee members.

Please note that it is the policy of the OAH to honor those applicants who have submitted their applications on or before the stated deadline date. Applications which are not received by close of business on the deadline date will not be considered.

The winner receives $1,000 (or $500 each should two books be selected). The award will be presented at the 2011 Annual Meeting of the OAH in Houston, Texas, March 17-20. One copy of each entry, clearly labeled "2011 Merle Curti Award Entry," must be mailed directly to:
