Beginning in 2003, the Merle Curti Award will be given annually for
the best book in social, intellectual, and/or cultural history. The
committee may decide to award to two books, one in social and/or cultural
history and one in intellectual and/or cultural history.
Each entry must be published during the period 1 January 2002 through
31 December 2002. One copy of each entry must be received by each committee
member by 1 October 2002. Final page proofs may be used for books
to be published after 1 October and before 1 January 2003. If a final page
proof is submitted, a bound copy of the entry must be received no later than
7 January 2003. No late submissions will be accepted.
The author of the winning book will receive $2,000 (or $1,000 should two
books be selected), a certificate and a medal. The publisher(s) of the book(s)
will be honored with a certificate of merit. The award will be presented
at the 2003 Annual Meeting of the OAH in Memphis, Tennessee, 3-6 April. One
copy of each entry, clearly labeled "2003 Merle Curti Award Entry," must be
