OAH Mission Statement

Since our founding in 1907, the OAH has promoted U.S. history teaching and scholarship, while encouraging the broadest possible access to historical resources and the most inclusive discussion of history. We encourage you to consider making a financial gift to the OAH to strengthen our advocacy for the profession, increase our outreach efforts, and improve our services to historians. Gifts to the Organization of American Historians are tax deductible as allowed by law.

Contributions to the OAH may be designated in many ways. The General Operating Fund helps offset the daily operating costs of the organization.

Gifts may also be made specifically to the organization's other initiatives:

Second Century Fund
The Second Century Fund was created on the occasion of OAH’s Centennial to address the concerns facing American history by strengthening resources available for teachers and students, encouraging professional development in community colleges, and enhancing academic scholarship in the profession. Honorary chairs of the Second Century Campaign are John Hope Franklin, Gerda Lerner, William E. Leuchtenburg and Anne Firor Scott.

Hata Education Fund
The Hata Education Fund was established by Nadine and Don Hata to encourage and promote the teaching and learning of American history at four-year and community colleges.

OAH General Reserve Fund
The General Reserve Fund was established to fund unanticipated expenses and revenue shortfalls. The General Reserve Fund serves like an Endowment for the General Operating Fund.

The Fund for American History
With your help, the Fund for American History will be used to fund new initiatives and ongoing projects.

The OAH Prize Fund
The organization provides cash awards for the twenty prizes promoting excellent research and teaching. Click here to learn more.
