Edward Countryman

Edward CountrymanEdward Countryman won the Bancroft Prize for A People in Revolution: The American Revolution and Political Society in New York, 1760-1790 (1981). He also has written The American Revolution (1985, revised edition in progress), Americans: A Collision of Histories (1996), and, most recently, Enjoy the Same Liberty: African Americans and the Era of the American Revolution (2011). His teaching interest in film studies led to Shane (1999), with Evonne Von Heussen Countryman. He has taught in New Zealand and Britain and is now a University Distinguished Professor in the Clements Department of History at Southern Methodist University.
