Mark Brilliant

Mark BrilliantAn associate professor of history and American studies at the University of California, Berkeley, and a former high school teacher, Mark Brilliant is the author of The Color of America Has Changed: How Racial Diversity Shaped Civil Rights Reform in California, 1941–1978 (2010), which won the American Society for Legal History’s Cromwell Book Prize and received an honorable mention in the OAH Frederick Jackson Turner Award competition. He is currently researching two new books, the first on public school financing inequality and the political and legal challenges to it from the creation of common schools through the Tax Revolt and the second on California’s Proposition 13.
