OAH Midwestern
Regional Conference

Ames, Iowa
3-6 August 2000

Cosponsored by the Organization
of American Historians and the Iowa State
University Department of History

OAH, in conjunction with Iowa State University Department of History, will host its first regional conference in Ames, Iowa, this August. The meeting is tailored for teachers of history wherever they work--community and four-year colleges, high schools, government, museums, the private sector, as well as in major universities. It also seeks to encourage persons who will soon serve in these diverse capacities to become involved in professional activities early in their careers.

The regional conference will bring together American historians located in the Midwest as well as American historians studying the Midwest. Ames is a convenient, easy-to-navigate city and the conference benefits from the relatively inexpensive lodging and services offered there. Many of the sessions will be devoted to the practice of history both in classrooms and in public settings. Fully a third of the sessions are to be given over to professional development. Sessions on the latest historiographical approaches to historical problems as well as the most recent teaching strategies will be interlaced with more conventional presentations of new research.

Registration and Exhibits

Registration and exhibits will be held in MacKay Hall located on Osborne Drive between Morrill Road and Union Drive. Sessions will be held just a couple of blocks away in Kildee and Lagomarcino Halls.
