The Organization of American Historians signs Publications Agreement with Oxford University Press

The Organization of American Historians is pleased to announce a new partnership with Oxford University Press for the publication and dissemination of the Journal of American History and the OAH Magazine of History.

After a long relationship with the History Cooperative, the Organization of American Historians recently decided it was necessary to move in a different direction regarding the publication of the Journal of American History and the OAH Magazine of History. The OAH has always been proud to be a part of the History Cooperative and its mission to make electronic dissemination of history available to a wide range of journals, regardless of their size. The withdrawal last fall of the University of Illinois Press from the History Cooperative and the closing of the History Cooperative Web site confirmed that the OAH needed to investigate its publishing options.

As part of this exploration, the OAH issued a request for proposals from academic publishers and commercial presses and received many strong replies. From the many outstanding bids we received, the OAH decided to partner with Oxford University Press.

The OAH believes that Oxford University Press is ideally situated to ensure the largest possible academic audience for the Journal of American History and the OAH Magazine of History. Oxford’s standing within the library community is exceptionally strong and their reputation as a premier publishing house will help the OAH strengthen its institutional subscriptions both in the U.S. and abroad. Oxford’s staff is working closely with the OAH to strengthen the online presence of the OAH’s publications, and OAH members will see additional benefits as we move forward with this partnership.

The OAH enthusiastically looks forward to a long and prosperous relationship with Oxford University Press.
