Journal of American History: Textbooks and Teaching, 2011

The Scholarship of Teaching and Learning and the College Classroom

Call for papers: In March 2011, the annual “Textbooks and Teaching” section of the Journal of American History will focus on the scholarship of teaching and learning, in the context of college—level history courses. Essays of 15–20 pages may be submitted for consideration, by e—mail to contributing editor Scott Casper (casper@unr.edu), no later than July 31, 2010.

What are the connections—and disjunctions—between how students learn history and what we are trying to teach? Of particular interest are essays that demonstrate and model rigorous analysis of students’ learning and of pedagogical practice, based upon individual experience and/or research in the scholarly literature of teaching and learning; and essays that detail how analysis of students’ learning has generated new approaches to teaching. Essays may address courses at any level: surveys, specialized or upper—division courses, senior theses or individual student projects.

The section editor, Scott Casper (casper@unr.edu), welcomes queries and proposals for potential topics and essays.
