OAH Endorses Recommendations for a Well-Rounded Education
On July 29, the OAH, along with twenty education associations, endorsed recommendations for how the federal government can better support core subjects beyond reading and math. The “Consensus Recommendations for a Well-Rounded Education” are a response to the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 and its singular focus on student performance in reading and math. The recommendations are also a response to the Obama administration’s Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) blueprint and FY11 budget request which propose to combine eight subject-specific grant programs into one, pitting them against one another for resources.
