$1,000 for best student essay
The Michigan Historical Review is now accepting submissions for its 2010 Student Essay Prize. Papers written by senior-level undergraduate and graduate students relating to Michigan’s political, economic, social, and cultural history are welcome, as are essays on American, Canadian, and midwestern history that directly or indirectly explore important themes related to Michigan’s past. The winning essay will be published in the spring 2011 issue of the Michigan Historical Review and its author will be awarded a cash prize of $1,000.00.
Submissions will be judged by a panel of professional historians using the criteria of originality, research, writing style, and documentation. Manuscripts should not exceed 10,000 words (double-spaced); endnotes should be double-spaced on separate pages. The author’s name should not appear on the copies. Include a cover letter indicating the student’s address, school, program, advisor, and stage in studies. An original and three copies may be e-mailed as attachments to MIHISREV@cmich.edu; “Student Essay Contest” should appear in the subject line. Deadline for all submissions is July 1, 2010.
