AAUP report on the status of the profession released

No Refuge: The Annual Report on the Economic Status of the Profession, 2009–2010 has been released by the American Association of University Professors (AAUP). An authoritative source of data on faculty salaries and compensation for decades, the report lists average salary by faculty rank and gender at more than 1,200 colleges and universities and provides an important perspective on the economic challenges facing higher education. This year’s report discusses faculty salaries in the context of turbulent financial times and concludes that mandatory furloughs, hiring and salary freezes, and reductions in retirement-fund contributions are all symptoms of a continuing divestment in faculty. The full report is available on the AAUP Web site, http://www.aaup.org/AAUP/comm/rep/Z/ecstatreport09-10. Print copies are also available through the AAUP online store, http://www.aaup.org.
