Massachusetts and the Civil War: The Commonwealth and National Disunion

The Massachusetts Historical Society, 1154 Boylston Street in Boston, will host this conference April 4-6, 2013, which will consider reform activities; military life; politics and the economy; slavery and emancipation; and how citizens dealt with the war's consequences. It will feature new areas of emphasis, including the radical intellectual tradition, health and the environment, and the memory of the war. Preregister to receive conference papers in advance; panelists and commentators will offer brief remarks, and a discussion with the audience will follow. Read more >
