Massachusetts Historical Society Seminar Series 2017-2018

More than two dozen Massachusetts Historical Society Research Department seminars have been scheduled for 2017-2018, offered in five series: the Boston Area Early American History Seminar, the Boston Environmental History Seminar, the Modern American Society & Culture Seminar, the New England Biography Seminar, and the Boston Seminar on the History of Women, Gender, & Sexuality, presented in conjunction with the Schlesinger Library of the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study.

Between now and late October, the five series will delve into an intriguing range of topics: the lost cities of Chicago’s South Side (Modern American Society & Culture, September 26), John Marshall as slave owner and Supreme Court Justice (Early American, October 3), Early American Environmental Histories (Environmental History, October 10), gender and the New Labor History (Women, Gender, & Sexuality, October 17), and the challenges of the travelling subject (Biography, October 19). Visit our website, https://www.masshist.org/research/seminars, to see what other exciting programs we have in store!

Most programs will be held at the MHS, 1154 Boylston Street in Boston and will consider a pre-circulated paper. The programs are free of charge and open to all, but those who subscribe to a series receive online advance access to the papers that will be discussed. Learn more about the five series and how to RSVP on our website, and follow our activities on Twitter @MHS_Research.
