It is with great sadness that the OAH notes the passing of Ira Berlin, a transformative historian of slavery in America. Professor Berlin was a long-time member of the OAH, first joining in 1986, and served as OAH President from 2002-2003. Professor Berlin was Distinguished University Professor at the University of Maryland.
