In Memoriam: Dr. Michal Rozbicki (1946–2019)
Dr. Rozbicki passed away Wednesday, July 31, 2019. His academic interest was European history and the history of American colonial culture and society. He held positions at Indiana University and Warsaw University. While in his home country of Poland, he served as the Director of American Studies Center at Warsaw University and was responsible for joint scholarship and faculty exchanges with American universities. In 1992, Dr. Rozbicki joined the Department of History at Saint Louis University. He served as the department chair from 2007 to 2010. In 2011, he led the efforts to create SLU’s Center for Intercultural Studies, where he was director until 2018. He was the author or editor of many articles/essays and thirteen books, which included The Complete Colonial Gentleman: Cultural Legitimacy in Plantation America (University of Virginia, 1998) and the award-winning Culture and Liberty of the Age of the American Revolution (University of Virginia, 2011).
