In Memoriam: Dr. Robert L. Zangrando (1932–2019)

Dr. Robert L. Zangrando passed away February 22, 2019. Dr. Zangrando obtained his Master’s Degree and Doctorate from the University of Pennsylvania. He focused on 20th century African American and women’s histories.  He taught as an assistant professor of history at Rutgers University, then as an adjunct professor at Yale University and from 1971 to 1994 he was a professor of history at the University of Akron. For the entirety of Dr. Zangrando career he was a vigilant Civil Rights advocate. He was selected by the NAACP for a presentation at the Library of Congress in honor of the “First One Hundred Years of the NAACP.” He was also chosen by Akron N.O.W in 1990, to be the first male recipient of the Feminist of the Year Award.
