In Memoriam: Dr. Mary Emily Miller (1934–2015)

Dr. Mary Emily Miller passed away April 17, 2015. She was active in many associations and received recognition for her participation within those groups; she was the first woman inducted into the Delaware Maritime Hall of Fame, the Haley Museum and Library recognized her for a quarter of a century of participation in the Research Seminars, the American Association of University Professors gave her an award to mark her 50-year membership. She also belonged to the Daughters of the American Revolution and was a lifetime member with the OAH. Her family farm near Federica, Delaware, was recognized as a tri-centennial farm continuously owned and operated by the same family since 1684. She taught at Salem University from 1966 until 1992, upon “retiring” she moved back to the family farm in Frederica and continued teaching through the University of Delaware downstate campuses. There she was an active board member of the Delaware Agricultural Museum, volunteered for the Kalmar Nyckel Foundation, and was involved in the Frederica Historical society.
