In Memoriam: Dr. Rowena Alfonso (1978–2016)

Rowena Ianthe Alfonso passed away July 3, 2016. Dr. Alfonso taught at the University of Toronto where she specialized in African American and Urban Histories. In January 2014, Alfonso’s work “They Aren’t Going to Listen to Anything but Violence: African Americans and the 1967 Buffalo Riot” was published in Afro-Americans in New York Life and History (vol. 38, no.1), p.81–117. Then in May 2015, the Journal of Urban History published her work “Crucial to the Survival of Black People: Local People, Black Power, and Community Organizations in Buffalo, New York, 1966–1968.” (vol.43, no.1), p.140–56.
