Award Deadlines Extended

We’ve extended the deadlines for both the Huggins-Quarles Award and the Stanton-Horton Award for Excellence in National Park Service History. The Stanton-Horton Award recognizes exemplary projects that encourage civic dialogue in all areas of public history. The nominated project may have been undertaken by NPS employees entirely within the agency or in collaboration with students, contractors, volunteers, or cooperating institutions, and involve a single national park unit or the National Park Service system. The award listing provides information about the types of eligible submissions. The new deadline for the Stanton-Horton Award for Excellence in National Park Service History is December 15, 2021.

Named for Benjamin Quarles and Nathan Huggins, two outstanding historians of the African American past, the Huggins-Quarles Award is given annually to one or two graduate students of color to assist them with expenses related to travel to research collections for the completion of the PhD dissertation. These awards were established to promote greater diversity in the historical profession. Applicants should submit a cover letter, CV, abstract, and a one-page itemized budget. Please see the award listing for detailed instructions. The new deadline for the Huggins-Quarles Award is January 1, 2022.

Please contact Award Coordinator Kara Hamm at khamm@oah.org with any questions.
