Mia Bay and Mae Ngai Winners of the 2022 Bancroft Prize

The OAH would like to congratulate OAH members, Mia Bay (University of Pennsylvania) and Mae Ngai (Columbia University), who have been recognized and awarded the 2022 Bancroft Prize for their respective works focusing on histories of travel segregation and Chinese migration. The Bancroft Prize is “considered one of the most prestigious honors in the field of American History,” and is awarded annually by Columbia University.

Bay won for her book, Traveling Black: A Story of Race and Resistance (Belknap Press of Harvard University Press), while Ngai won for her work, The Chinese Question: The Gold Rushes and Global Politics (W.W. Norton).
