How Politics Worked 200 Years Ago and How It Compares to Politics Today

The way politics worked 200 years ago was both eerily similar to today's political environment--and nothing like it at all. Amazingly, both of these propositions can be supported. But both require qualification and elaboration to illuminate how American politics has, and has not, changed in the past two centuries.
