Lecture Description

Shifting the focus of the notorious case of Dred Scott v. Sanford to Dred’s wife, Harriet, demonstrates how compensating history by attending to women’s lives can answer questions. Harriet was Dred’s co-litigant. Her presence as co-litigant and mother of their two daughters demonstrates more clearly the real stakes in the notorious lawsuit.
