Lecture Description

This lecture explores the complex interrelationship between litigation and cultural change to analyze how public opinion about the right of lesbian and gay couples to marry changed so quickly between the passage of the Defense of Marriage Act in 1996 and the Supreme Court’s 2015 Obergefell decision established marriage as a constitutional right for such couples.
