Anne Sarah Rubin
Anne Sarah Rubin is a professor of history and the associate director of the Imaging Research Center at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. She was the Associate Director of the Imaging Research Center from 2017-2020. She is currently the president of the Southern Association of Women Historians, and was president of the Society of Civil War Historians from 2012-2014. She is the author of Through the Heart of Dixie: Sherman's March and American Memory (2014), a study of the events and legacy of Gen. William T. Sherman's March. This project also incorporated a companion multimedia site, Sherman's March and America: Mapping Memory, for which she received an ACLS Digital Innovation Fellowship. Rubin is also the author of A Shattered Nation: The Rise and Fall of the Confederacy, 1861-1868 (2005), which received the OAH Avery O. Craven Award; and a coauthor of the award-winning Valley of the Shadow, an interactive history of the Civil War in two communities. Most recently, she has coedited The Perfect Scout: A Soldier's Memoir of the Great March to the Sea and the Campaign of the Carolinas (2018), the memoir of George W. Quimby. She is currently working on a project about food shortages and starvation in the Civil War era South.
