Regina Kunzel is the Larned Professor of History and Professor of Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies at Yale University. She teaches and writes about gender and sexuality in modern American history. Her most recent book, Criminal Intimacy: Sex in Prison and the Uneven History of Modern American Sexuality (2008), was awarded the American Historical Association's John Boswell Prize, the Modern Language Association's Alan Bray Memorial Book Award, and the Lambda Literary Award for LGBT Studies. She is also the author of Fallen Women, Problem Girls: Unmarried Mothers and the Professionalization of Social Work, 1890–1945 (1993). She is currently working on a book on the encounter of sexual- and gender-variant people with psychiatry in the mid-twentieth-century United States.
