Thomas Alan Schwartz is a professor of history at Vanderbilt University, specializing in foreign relations of the United States, American politics, the history of international relations, Modern European history, and biography. He has written extensively on America’s relations with Europe, especially Germany, and his research concerns alliance politics and the modern American presidency. He is author of Henry Kissinger and American Power: A Political Biography (2020); Lyndon Johnson and Europe: In the Shadow of Vietnam (2003); America’s Germany: John J. McCloy and the Federal Republic of Germany (1991) which received the Stuart Bernath Book Prize of the Society of American Foreign Relations and the Harry S. Truman Book Award; and co-editor with Matthias Schulz of The Strained Alliance: U.S.-European Relations from Nixon to Carter (2009).
