Lonnie G. Bunch IIILonnie Bunch is the founding director of the Smithsonian's National Museum of African American History and Culture, and the recipient of the 2017 OAH Friend of History Award. Previously he served as the president of the Chicago Historical Society, the associate director for curatorial affairs at the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History, an education specialist with the Smithsonian's National Air and Space Museum, and a curator of history for the California African American Museum in Los Angeles. He has written several books, including Black Angelenos: The African American in Los Angeles, 1850-1950 and the exhibition catalog, The American Presidency: A Glorious Burden (2000).
