Careers in Journals Publishing
My name is Andrew Clark, and I am the production editor for the Journal of American History. I handle the day-to-day operations of the Journal and manage our publication schedule. I received my Ph.D. in history from Indiana University, Bloomington, in 2017. As a graduate student, I worked for the Journal as an editorial assistant and found my post-degree transition into publishing to be rewarding. Many may think the Journal is the only publication we offer, but we also host a blog, Process: A Blog for American History, and our JAH Podcast. I am happy to discuss the job market for graduate students and opportunities for employment in journals publishing. Current trends in publishing are changing the ways many folks approach their job, and present challenges in journals publishing require a balance of production knowledge, online presentation and marketing, and project management. Have questions about a job in this field? Check out our current staffing list, our publisher (Oxford University Press), and feel free to contact me with any questions you may have.
