The Organization of American Historians, founded in 1907 as the Mississippi Valley Historical Association, serves individual college and university professors, high school teachers, students, archivists, public historians, and others who value the study of the American past. OAH Membership Information and Categories
The OAH provides a variety of membership categories to accommodate the wide range of career fields within the history profession. Membership is open to all, regardless of career path, who value the study, presentation, and practice of U.S. history. The OAH membership year begins November 1 and runs through October 31. For those who join between November 1 and April 30, their memberships are backdated to November 1 and missed publications are sent. Those who join May 1 and later pay a prorated amount and their memberships expire October 31 of the following year.
