Since 1907, the organization has been committed to excellence in teaching, from universities to precollegiate classrooms to museums. The OAH Magazine of History and OAH/NCHS Teaching Units encourage the use of primary sources in the classroom. “Teaching the JAH” presents online tools to use the latest scholarly research in the Journal of American History in the U.S. survey course. OAH works on your behalf with foundations and other organizations to provide travel grants, professional development conferences, and other resources for history educators at all levels and in all settings.
Published quarterly between 1985 and 2013, each issue of the OAH Magazine of History focused on a theme in U.S. history. Articles drew upon recent scholarship, surveyed the historiography, and provided practical teaching strategies. Its goal was to enhance the teaching and presentation of U.S. history in secondary and college classrooms, as well as in public history settings. The OAH Magazine of History ceased publication with the October 2013 issue. Members may access the entire archive—all twenty-seven volumes—of the Magazine online. Please login to access the archives.
