Call for Papers: Special Issue of The Historian on the 50th Anniversary of the Reunification of Vietnam

November 21, 2023

The Historian invites articles commemorating the 50th anniversary of the reunification of Vietnam.

The Historian journal (published by Taylor & Francis) is calling for essays as part of a special issue to commemorate the reunification of Vietnam half a century ago in 1975. Scholarly articles (which will be double-blind peer reviewed) are welcomed not merely on the significance and legacy of those events in 1975 but, more generally, on the Vietnamese civil/liberation war(s) from 1945 to 1975.

The articles may span a wide range of historical themes and topics: diplomacy and foreign policy, economy, military, religion, women, literature and film, and others. They may be based around issues including, but not limited to, North and South Vietnamese diplomacy, the memory of the military experience of North and South Vietnamese combatants, the question of religion at reunification and after, the emergence of a new unified economy and challenges in the face of the U.S. trade embargo, and how the war is remembered by ordinary citizens and combatants in Vietnamese novels of the war, in the poetry, in film, and in the music.

Articles should be between 5,000 words to a maximum of 10,000 words in length.
Deadline for submission is August 2024.

Scholars intending to write for this special issue should make preliminary contact with the two editors by email as soon as possible, expressing an interest in contributing.
