Controversial Korean War Memorial Refurbished and Reinstalled

In the August issue of The American Historian (p. 9), we reported that the Ross County Korean War Memorial in Chillicothe, Ohio, installed in May, was widely criticized because it featured anachronistic images of soldiers, tanks, and airplans from the Vietnam and Desert Storm eras. In addition, the memorial also did not include at least six local men killed in action in Korea.

On October 22, a redesigned memorial was reinstalled at the memorial's original location. A granite company in Columbus, Ohio, volunteered to remove the original memorial, refurbished it based on a new design, and reinstall it. The memorial now includes a map of Korea and an updated list of names of servicemen who died in the conflict.
